Gallup, NM
We arrived at Gallup late this afternoon. Another two hours into Lake Havasu but we decided to stay here. Density altitude was reading ready high with the higher temps and much higher altitudes. The altitude of Gallop airport is 7500 ft above sea level. Limerick's airport (PTW) is only 309 ft above sea level.
The scenery is beautiful and mountains are incredible. We were asked to climb to 12,000 ft today by the air traffic controllers. I have never been that high and it was a crazy ride.
I hope to provide a full briefing tomorrow night with pictures.
We have some of our fellow racers staying in the same hotel.
Where are we? Oh that is right....we are in NM.
PS....First time I had to use chains to tie down an airplane. Winds were gusting to 25 when we got in and they were suppose to be up during the night. Gallup airport says that is normal for this area.

Of course, you can always say "unable" and tell them you want a lower altitude, even if you have to change to VFR.
